MUSIC

The Music policy is strictly mono recordings, nothing after 1960 played on vinyl, 78rpm gramophone records and high fidelity digital files. So; Jazz and Latin and strict tempo, Rn’b and Blues, Gospel, Country , Rockabilly and swing, Calypso , Western and Eastern European folk music, World and Tropical,  Musicals, Broadway and Music hall , the list , like the beat, goes on. While not afraid of a classic, we like to play original and surprising selections.
We have found this to be a welcome change for festival goers, after a day of gigs and raving and judging by our always packed dance-floors, we are confident we are doing it right.

THE IRISH TIMES

“The best part of my weekend was going to the Haunt in Body and Soul. “It was something I wasn’t expecting, the level of performance and subversion on display was exceptional. It was a whole new experience.” (link)

THE INDEPENDENT
SPACE
The Gramophone Disco, an enchanting space, where sound and vision combine to make a unique experience. Antique and early modernist art and decor, mixed with our own art, sculptural creations and vintage comedy/horror visuals, envelop the visitor in a comfortable yet fantastic and darkly euphoric world. In this environment, we recontextualise the music and make it newly relevant. The overall atmosphere is of a dizzying party of great music and dancing in a magical space & time machine. Crafting our space is key to what we do.
DECOR
We put time and a huge effort into our décor, creating an environment that is comfortable yet unusual and weird. We like people to feel at (un)home. Once people enter our venues, they tend to stay all night. Treading a fine line between the homely and the unhomely, we use velvets, silks and lace, comfortable couches and seating, lamps and bespoke lighting, old pictures, dressers and nick naks. Wooden floors and rugs when we can. Our 14 foot bar is dressed with pleated fabrics and backed with an old fashioned dresser filled with curios. The bar acts as an area to socialise. We black out our space with theatre blacks, for controlled lighting any time of day or night. We have a collection of fun props; gramophone players and vintage record players, cinematic and photographic equipment, scientific instruments, taxidermy, dried roses, Skulls and divers posters and graphic art. We also work with local objects and materials when traveling.
